Who Are We

History and Founding Vision

The Fourth Great Awakening (1960–1980), often called the Charismatic Awakening, arose from the Pentecostal movement and emphasized the active work of the Holy Spirit through spiritual gifts, renewing faith across many Christian traditions.

By 1989, leaders within this movement recognized the need to reconnect with the historic Church. This led to the Convergence Movement, which blended charismatic worship with the liturgical and sacramental life of the early Church. Drawing from Lutheran, Eastern Orthodox, and Roman Catholic traditions—alongside the Anglican Book of Common Prayer—this movement called believers back to the roots of Christian worship and theology.

The Most Reverend Peter Riola was a key figure in this renewal and an instrumental influence in the formation of the Communion of Anglican Churches International (CACI). He also founded the St. Alcuin Theological Seminary (SATS), both of which continue to serve the Communion’s mission of spiritual formation and theological education.

In addition, Archbishop Riola was a founding bishop of the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA), reflecting his lifelong commitment to Anglican renewal and unity.

Statement of Faith

Our Statement of Faith

We believe in the Bible as the infallible Word of God, containing all things necessary for salvation.

  • We believe in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and in the blessed hope that comes through the redemptive work of Jesus Christ.
  • We believe in the sacraments of Communion and Baptism and the Apostles' and Nicene Creeds.
  • We believe all people are worthy of the Good News of Jesus Christ and the love and forgiveness He brings.

Mission and Purpose Statement

“To glorify God by serving, growing, and multiplying local churches that love Jesus Christ and proclaim the Gospel to the world He died to save, through a global Anglican alliance committed to gathering, planting, equipping, and supporting such churches for religious, charitable, and educational purposes.

We acknowledge, together with the Communion of Anglican Churches International, that we are united in the essentials of the Christian faith. We are obedient to Jesus Christ, the unique Son of God, who through His sacrificial death and resurrection provides the only way to the Father.

We also recognize that we are diverse in the expression of this faith—evangelical, catholic, and charismatic—three streams flowing together as one river in Jesus Christ.

Our Core Commitments

The Communion of Anglican Churches International believes and upholds the eternal truths revealed by God through His Son, The Word made flesh (John 1:1–14). These truths shape our identity and guide our faith, words, actions, and worship.

Commitment to Jesus Christ

Salvation is found in Jesus Christ alone. We are called to live in joyful obedience to Jesus Christ, God’s Word, and to the leading of the Holy Spirit.

Authority of Scripture

The Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the Word of God in their entirety and the standard by which we order our lives and faith.

Evangelism

We are called to make disciples and grow the Church in a way that reflects God’s loving heart for those separated from Jesus Christ and His Church.

Relational Ministry

Ministry is expressed through relationships that reflect love, intimacy, unity, accountability, and shared mission.

Worship

We are committed to worship in Word and Sacrament, in the power of the Holy Spirit, within the Anglican tradition.

Servant Ministry

Every Christian is created, called, and needed for ministry. We equip and release the faithful to use their spiritual gifts to glorify God.

Sacrificial Giving

We are called to generosity with our time, talents, and resources to support those in need and advance the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Biblical Leadership

We identify and train emerging leaders marked by authentic faith, godly character, and a servant’s heart.

We believe nothing of significance happens in God’s Kingdom apart from prayer, and we make prayer a priority.
